Collect: International Art Fair For Modern Craft and Design 2020
Collect art fair returns to London bringing the cream of the craft world crop to Somerset House

Materials, quality and good design; these things are becoming ever more important as we reject the mass produced and move towards buying objects with longevity. And what better place to seek out unique, timeless pieces than the international craft and design fair, Collect, which returns to London this month for its 16th year. Representing galleries from over 25 nations from Sweden, to Uganda, Japan to the UK and showcasing works from the last five years, this is the place to find the freshest design inspiration.
This year’s fair is moving to the illustrious Somerset House, with exceptional examples of craftwork in precious metals, fabric, glass, ceramics and wood. Highlights will include James Freeman Gallery (Stand S9), which will present the work of British wax sculptor Rebecca Stevenson. Stevenson combines baroque imagery of animals and people with floral motifs that speak of life, death and opulence, treading the line between the beautiful and the grotesque.

If you are looking for unique jewellery, don’t miss the Goldsmith’s Fair (Stand E18), also represented here. And for elegant design, visit Gallery Wannmull (Stand S2), which will be presenting some of the most current Korean makers, including Sun-Kyeong Park, who creates delicate works from blown glass and silk. A quarter of the galleries will be exhibiting for the first time, ensuring new discoveries for even the most seasoned visitor.
British craft will be put in the spotlight with the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST), who celebrate their 30th anniversary this year. The trust supports talented British makers, and will be represented by a curated display of craft scholars.
For the duration of the fair, Collect also runs a talks programme exploring design, architecture, fashion and art. Speakers include leading ceramicist Carol McNicoll and contemporary craft consultant Daniella Wells. Wells will discuss contemporary jewellery as wearable art with a panel of experts.
