The Fruit of Silence, Southwark Cathedral

City of London Sinfonia explore the relationship between sound and spirituality in an immersive orchestral performance as part of their Modern Mystics series

The Fruit of Silence, Southwark Cathedral
Abandon preconceptions of staid, passive concerts and immerse yourself in contemporary classical music this autumn. City of London Sinfonia consider the relationship between sound and spirituality in their Modern Mystics series, a trilogy of site-specific performances.

The stately interiors of Southwark Cathedral are transformed for the inaugural Fruit of Silence Concert.

Principal Conductor Michael Collins oversees a programme of tranquil, thought-provoking chamber music. The Fruit of Silence, a piece by Peteris Vasks, and the music for which this concert is named, will be performed, as will a selection of contemporary classical works by Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, including double concerto Tabula Rasa, and Seven Magnificat Antiphons performed by a roaming choir.

Listen to the music and lose yourself in the shape-shifting, moving space with accompanying projections by Video Artist Jack James (Flight, Opera Holland Park). Wander around the Nave, following the moving choir while you take in the sound and light show. Or lounge around on cushions and ponder the connections between music and faith.
