No realm of thought… No field of vision, Cerith Wyn Evans, White Cube, Bermondsey

In February Cerith Wyn Evans' exhibition of new work will be installed across the entirety of White Cube, Bermondsey, in what will be his largest show at the gallery to date. Wyn Evans works across a range of media, but his installations are always elegant and thought-provoking.

Wyn Evans combines light, drawing and text to produce his aesthetically pared-back works. In his early career he focused on video and film and this background continues to influence his work. His sculptures are given meaning by words and phrases sourced from film, literature and poetry and he chooses words that convey a sense of time passing. Take for example his neon work Narrative Fiction (2012), which spells out the words 'Once upon a time... the end,' or Interior (Day), (2001) which evokes the directions on a screenplay. For the 2013 Venice Biennale, Wyn Evans created an installation that utilised a WWII searchlight. The searchlight sent a beam of light over the Giudecca that could be seen from miles away and flashed a Morse code version of an 18th-century Welsh text.
