Re-opening of the Courtauld Gallery

The Courtauld Gallery will reopen its doors on November 19, after three years of major refurbishment. Tickets are now on sale.
From Cezanne and Manet to Kandinsky, the gallery has one of Britain’s finest collections of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art and we can't wait to see those paintings again.

Lubaina Himid exhibition, Tate Modern

For more than 30 years the painter, writer and curator Lubaina Himid has dedicated her multi-disciplinary practice to exploring questions of race, gender, class and overlooked histories. She has played a pivotal role in the British Black arts movement since the 80s, championing the work of underrepresented contemporaries at home and abroad. She says that her paintings, drawings, prints and installations seek to bring recognition to ‘the contribution black people have made to cultural life in Europe for the past several hundred years’.

Hogarth and Europe, Tate Britain

European society and culture changed dramatically in the mid-18th century. This was an age of opportunity and change, enlightenment and innovation, but also materialism, exploitation and injustice. In an affluent, cosmopolitan Europe, the seeds of modern empire, revolution and global war were being sown.

In Britain, William Hogarth became famous for paintings and prints that captured the new modern experience with energy, wit and humanity. But he was not alone. Across Europe, artists were creating vivid images of contemporary life and social commentary. The rich and the poor, the immoral and self-deluding, the selfish and the selfless, were made characters in pictorial stories that caught people’s imaginations and took art in novel directions.

For the first time, this exhibition will bring together Hogarth’s greatest works with those of his peers across the continent – including Francesco Guardi in Venice, Chardin in Paris and Cornelis Troost in Amsterdam – to suggest the cross currents, parallels and sympathies that crossed borders.

Tate Moden lates

One of our favourite ways to experience a museum is after dark when the school parties have gone home. Many of our favourite cultural hotspots had to close their regular late openings during the lockdown. So we are delighted to announce the reopening of Tate Modern Lates this month, with exciting new programmes, performances and music, not to mention food and drink.

Fabergé in London: Romance to Revolution, exhibition V&A

Most people will have heard of Carl Fabergé, Russian jeweller to the ill-fated Romanov family. What is less well-known is that Fabergé opened a London branch, the only one outside Russia, which served aristocrats, heiresses, Maharajas and financiers. An exhibition opening at the V&A in November willshowcase the riches produced by this iconic jewellery house, including some beautiful examples made specifically for the English market.
