The Split, BBC One new drama
Divorce is a family affair: get ready for the new BBC One drama by Abi Morgan
Could there be a more cowardly way to tell your wife you'll be getting a divorce than introduce her to your lawyer? Welcome to The Split, the latest BBC drama from writer Abi Morgan (The Hour, River) full of high drama, affairs and Stephen Mangan. What more could you want?
Airing on Tuesday 24 April, The Split brings us the salacious story of three sisters: two divorce lawyers Hannah and Nina, and their youngest sibling Rose. Set in the world of high profile divorce cases, expect to see family members at loggerheads, confusing legal cases muddied further by impropriety, secrets and lies.
When Hannah's own mother – and boss – spurns her for a promotion, Hannah (Nicola Walker) tries to leave the family firm for a rival company, further fracturing relations between her and her sister Nina as they go head-to-head battling over the rights of a multi-millionaire couple in the midst of a sticky divorce. There's the wedding of a younger sister to deal with, plus the complications of an estranged father. This is The Godfather meets Suits.
Asking the complicated questions about the position of marriage and divorce in the modern world, The Split promises lots of tension and anger. Joining writer Abi Morgan (who won an Emmy for Outstanding Writer for a Miniseries for The Hour) is the director Jessica Hobbs who directed Emily Watson Apple Tree Yard last year, and the ITV drama Broadchurch. They are joined by Stephen Mangan and Grantchester actress Finoa Button. Bring on the drama!
