Den Udon

Whilst there's no shortage of noodle bars and restaurants in London, the new Den Udon restaurant, London, is putting a new spin on the tired old ramen.

Den Udon
A quiet revolution seems to be taking place in the noodle world. The long reign of the ramen looks to be waning, and the new age of the shorter, thicker udon seems ready to take its place. Udon restaurants in London don't get better than this.

For Den, a new kid on the Kings Cross block, this change is a welcome one. Dubbing themselves the ‘Udon Evangelists’, their mission is simply to bring diners the 'cornerstones of Japanese cuisine' – Udon, umami and Dashi.

Their menu is simple, showing faith in their core ingredients; mains are either Udon with black, white or vegetarian broth, or Donburi. That’s not to say, however, that there isn’t plenty of variety within this: mouthwatering toppings and garnishes vary from salmon miso and Chinese cabbage, to our favourite new twist on Carbonara, which uses Parmesan, fresh egg and spicy cod roe.

Headed up by Emi Machida, who has worked in the kitchens of both Bone Daddies and Koya, we reckon Den will attract similar attention and acclaim. We suggest you grab a table, and sit back and enjoy the udon revolution – we reckon this will be one of the best places to eat in King's Cross.
