The Manor Restaurant, Clapham
New restaurant in Clapham is making exciting waves on the London food scene by offering haute-cuisine at a very reasonable price. South London, get excited.
Clapham may not be a hotbed for high-end restaurant cuisine, but things are about to change. Prepare to travel South for new restaurant arrival The Manor, the new fine dining venture from the team behind The Dairy – another Clapham hotspot which has, since its opening last year, become one of South London's most popular dining tickets.
The Manor comes across as a natural progression, polishing up some of The Dairy's rough edges and making the leap from local foodie gem to fully-fledged cutting-edge modern bistro. Their flagship tasting menu, coming in at £42, features a mouthwatering line-up that rapidly comes to feel like a bargain, with each of its dishes also available à la carte alongside plenty of other mouthwatering offerings.
Head chef Dean Parker (also known for of Notting Hill's two michelin star sensation The Ledbury) has curated an inventive and adventurous selection, showing off techniques as diverse as fermentation and using liquid nitrogen, in a stripped-back and stylish space. No detail has been forgotten – this goes for the service too – with offerings ranging from suckling pig belly with braised head, morcilla and squash to charred cornish mackerel with cucumber and dill, and a delectable-sounding jerusalem artichoke served with smashed crème fraiche and poached quince. With fresh, organically sourced ingredients in a stylish, minimalist environment, the team at the Manor are sure to have Central London's finest looking nervously over their shoulders.
