The Fix for Men: Menswear Trends 2015
GUEST SPOT: Keep updated on the latest menswear clothing: India Gladstone from 'The Fix for Men' brings you the must-know menswear trends 2015.
THE FORECAST:
So Long Skinny:
This is the year that skinny jeans disappear from the wardrobes of men forever, with beautifully tailored trousers taking their place. Look no further than Margaret Howell's S/S 15 collection for inspiration.
Slick tailoring at Margaret Howell
One of our most-loved looks from the end of this year is the pairing of this smart trouser with a casual shoe, such as a slip-on or white trainer (Vans, for example, have had a serious resurgence).
The Vans slip on 59s
The Statement Hat:
Thanks largely to rapper, singer and fashion mogul Pharrell Williams, 2014 was the year of the statement hat. Opinions are divided, but in all truth this is not a trend that we see petering out in 2015. Over at The Fix, we get more requests from customers searching for the perfect hat than we do about any other item of clothing. And for us, a beautiful hat is the pinnacle of any outfit. It is capable of lifting a jumper / trouser combo out of mediocrity and propelling a sharp suit into a sensation. Expect 2015 to be the year of the Fedora - and the more adventurous would do well to take pay attention to Burberry's designs.
L: Burberry S/S 15 R: Ami Wool Fedora, £130, (Mr Porter)
The Jump(er) to Maturity:
Jumpers, shirts and t - shirts will become more muted this year. 2014 saw a lot of branded, loud tops and sweatshirts with logos, names or words splashed across them. However 2015 invites more subdued hues, with shirt decorated with quiet patterns in dark, rich colours. Slightly bulkier jumpers, and t shirts which blend into the background are also going to be huge this year.
Muted tones at Christopher Kane
In Training:
Stan Smiths were perhaps one of the biggest trends of 2014 and we can’t see them going away any time soon. Forget relying on your running shoes for style kudos, instead opt for a slick, statement pair such as these, from Raf Simmons.
Sportswear luxe met futuristic footwear at Raf Simmons.
Understated Overcoats:
No need to over think this staple garment. Keep overcoats simple and elegant this year, an easy way to complete or instigate, the new, sophisticated wardrobe.
Simplicity is key, at Prada S/S 15
In Summary:
There’s no doubt that, led by the resurgence of confident, classic tailoring 2015 is all going to be about sophisticated menswear collections. With designers such as Lou Dalton, Craig Green and Casely Hayford at the peak of their capabilities, there are many sharp, interesting and invigorating collections to look forward to in the London Collections: Menswear, and to choose from in the forthcoming year.
