Tahnee Lonsdale: Roberta Moore Contemporary, Imitate Modern
Roberta Moore Contemporary presents paintings from one of Saatchi Art’s 2013 new artists to invest in, Tahnee Lonsdale
In Tahnee Lonsdale’s new solo exhibition at Imitate Modern Gallery, Marylebone things are taking a philosophical turn. Journeying through fantasy and faith, the Byam Shaw graduate’s latest paintings are bold, colourful, and rich with religious symbolism as well as fairy tale castles, fragmented nudes and provocative fruit.
These fantastical landscapes are a fitting follow up to Lonsdale’s earlier interests in spirituality, faith and the fear of having no belief system at all. Now in ‘Your Epoché’, Londsale suggests that there is no expectation of faith, but rather a ‘suspension of judgement’ over our existence or any higher being.
While these themes can be difficult to grasp, Lonsdale’s vibrant and intuitive colour palette is appealing and speaks of the recognisable contorted figures of Henri Matisse’s ‘The Dance’ (1909).
