One Direction video: BBC Music enlists 1D and host of stars
BBC Music: One Direction, Kylie, Lorde, Pharrell Williams and other pop mega-stars cover God Only Knows for Children in Need
Brits over 40 will remember the Beeb’s version of Perfect Day, released in 1997 as a charity single and featuring an all-star line-up of our favourite Nineties pop icons. Some, like Lou Reed himself, David Bowie, Tom Jones and Tammy Wynette stood the test of time; others (Boyzone, anyone?) not so much.
Now they’ve repeated the trick with an irresistible new musical homage to Brian Wilson’s Beach Boys classic God Only Knows. Sir Elton John makes the cut for both songs, accompanied in the 2014 video by One Direction, Kylie Minogue, Pharrell Williams, Stevie Wonder, Chris Martin, David Grohl, Lorde, Florence and an extended supergroup of other stars.
The single launches the BBC’s new BBC Music initiative, and will also raise funds for Children in Need. The film took two years to make, and is the work of ad agency Karmarama.
