Best Comedy Edinburgh Fringe 2014: Top 5 acts to watch

The 5 most promising young comedy talents to look out for if you're heading up to the Edinburgh Fringe 2014

Natasia Demetriou, You'll Never Have All Of Me

The 5 most promising young comedy talents to look out for if you're heading up to the Edinburgh Fringe 2014...

Natasia Demetriou, You'll Never Have All Of Me

Branching out from her deeply amusing sketch group Oyster Eyes, Natasia Demetriou's first and equally amusing solo show is a shining example of an immensely affable and natural comedic stage presence; so natural in fact, it's hard to believe it might in any way be scripted. Packed full of characters with finely observed and subtle mannerisms, You'll Never Have All Of Me is guaranteed to tickle even the most discerning customers.

Thomas Pocket presents: Me (Oscar Jenkyn-Jones)

As the debut solo show from young absurdist Oscar Jenkyn-Jones, we are highly anticipating this fixture on the Fringe comedy calendar. A whimiscal character comic equipped with a variety of outlandish personas all portrayed with depth and authenticity, plus the odd impression of inanimate an object thrown in, the imaginative, surreal and theatrical nature of Jenkyn-Jones' performance will leave audiences both bemused and with a broad smile on their face.

Ellie White, Humans

And another debut character comedy performance, this time from the inventive and hilariously bold Ellie White, whose delivery and timing are second to none - not to mention an impressive showcase of accent and acting skills. Entitled Humans, this hour-long, expertly-played and idiosyncratic take on the character show is both unique and brilliantly ridiculous.

David Elms: Nurture Boy

As the winner of 2014's Musical Comedy Awards, David Elms' deadpan and endearingly charming musical comedy show is bound to be a highlight of the festival. With experience writing for sketch, improv and musical comedy in the past, Elms' humour and performance is a highly-skilled mix of subtle, smart, and never predictable, silliness.

Sheeps: Wembley Previews

Despite performing sketch-based comedy for some time now, the Sheeps comic troupe somehow manage to consistently produce material that is fresh and imaginative, and likely to see them go far. Featuring Liam Williams - who is also doing his own (highly-recommended) solo stand up at this year's Fringe - masquerading as the group's pragmatist, Daran Johnson as the lovable anti-hero, and Alastair Roberts as the ever misguided thesp, the trio are all rare talents in their own right. And when combined, their clever wordcraft, and energetic and original take on the traditional sketch dynamic is nothing short of genius. Past absurd gems include their imagined representation of Jack Daniels in real life and a musical based on Oliver Twist, and this year's show promises much more where that came from.
