Wild Bore, Soho Theatre

A critique of criticism sees the cast literally talking out of their arses, in this cheeky and divisive Edinbrugh Fringe transfer

Wild Bore, Soho Theatre
Wild Bore received mixed reviews (two to five stars) from critics following its stint at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, but this is unsurprising, as the show makes some damning comments about the nature criticism.

The play is essentially a critique of itself. Using lines taken from real reviews of the three cast members’ previous works, it explores criticism, agency, and the relationship between boundaries and rules set by both artists and critics.

However, Wild Bore doesn't only appeal to those in the theatre world. With plenty of childish gags – the show opens with the three cast members bare-bottomed and literally talking out of their arses – and off-the-wall humour, there’s plenty for a non-critic to laugh at as well.

With its eclectic humour interwoven with questions of who has the right to assign meaning to something, and who decides whether meaning is necessary or not, this play provokes an interesting discussion and plenty of laughs.

Zoe Coombs Marr (main award nominee at the Fringe in 2016), Ursula Martinez, and Adrienne Truscott (Malcolm Hardee Award for Comic Originality winner 2013) worked together for the first time to create Wild Bore. They formed an ‘outrageously funny’ comedic trio in their run at the Fringe and will be reuniting for the show’s return this winter.

The show commences its run at the Soho Theatre in November, with ticket prices starting at £10.
