This Beautiful Future, Yard Theatre
Uncoventional love story This Beautiful Future returns to The Yard Theatre after a sellout premiere last year
It's world war II. A French school girl falls in love with a German soldier against a backdrop of dropping bombs. They spend one evening talking, touching and teasing in bed.
Playwright Rita Kalnejais infuses the 1940s drama with distinctly contemporary flashes of pop culture in this unconventional romance. Instead of the typically buttoned up or overly jingoistic perception of war, we are given fluid, multi-faceted characters and an unnervingly techy, musical production from The Yard's Jay Miller.
This Beautiful Future, which premiered at The Yard Theatre to glowing reviews in 2016, returns for a limited run this autumn. It's the first time the East London Fringe Theatre has given audiences a second chance to see a show.
