Playwright Alistair McDowall (X, Pomona) returns to the Royal Court Theatre with The Glow, a Victorian-set thriller about a woman who finds herself locked in the windowless cell of an asylum with no memory of who she is or how she arrived there. A spiritualist medium takes advantage of her blank mind, offering her work as an assistant. But as the medium delves into the woman’s past, unexpected forces begin to emerge.

The Royal Court’s artistic director Vicky Featherstone, who previously directed McDowall’s 2016 play X, helms the production. One-to-watch Ria Zmitrowicz, who performed in McDowall's X before delivering head-turning performances in the Almeida's The Doctor and Three Sisters, as well as BBC One's harrowing three-part series The Girls, stars, along with Fisayo Akinade (The Antipodes, Barber Shop Chronicles), Rakie Ayola (On Bear Ridge) and Tadhg Murphy (Our Country’s Good and the upcoming TV adaptation of Conversations With Friends).

One of the Royal Court's major productions of 2022, The Glow is set to spook audiences in the Jerwood Theatre Downstairs from Friday 21 January - Saturday 5 March.
