Soul of Shaolin, Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre
Catch the internationally-acclaimed Soul of Shaolin as it plays in London for the first time, combining acrobatics, rousing music and wow-factor theatrical design
Soul of Shaolin first caught the world’s attention when it was performed at the Olympic Games ceremony in 2008. Since then, the show has wowed on Broadway – where it was the first production from the People’s Republic of China ever to be performed there – earning a nomination for ‘Best Special Theatrical Event’ at the 63rd Tony Awards.
Soul of Shaolin has gone on to be performed more than 500 times in countries across the world, including the US, Australia, India, Norway and South Korea. Now, it comes to London, bringing a thrilling combination of acrobatics, martial arts, rousing music and impressive theatrical design to the stage of the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre.
At the centre of the spectacle is Hui Guang, a young boy left to make his own way in the world after being separated from his mother during a war. He’s rescued by Shaolin Monks who train him in the ancient art of kung fu; the practice is handed down through generations in the legendary Shaolin Monastery, a Chán Buddhist temple. As fate intervenes and his mother returns, will Hui Guang be able to triumph over the barriers holding them apart?
With a universal story of loss and redemption at its core and a chance to witness the age-old practice of traditional Shaolin kung fu performed on stage, Soul of Shaolin is a vivid cultural spectacle that those with an interest in the martial art should not miss.
