So laments Cleo in seven methods of killing kylie jenner, Jasmine Lee-Jones’ debut play which premiered at the Royal Court Theatre in 2019. Fuelled by an attention-grabbing title, the play aims to assess the power of social media stars, focusing on Jenner in particular. The show returns to the Royal Court Theatre for a limited six-week run this summer, with Leanne Henlon making her professional debut as Cleo and Tia Bannon reprising her role as Kara.

The play follows teenager Cleo as she locks herself away in her room, ignoring the calls of friend Kara. In the past, taking your phone of the hook would have meant a night of peace and quiet, but not anymore. Cleo is anything but silent, with social media having opened up a whole new world of discussion.

Jasmine Lee-Jones got her start in writing through the Royal Court’s Young Court programme and seven methods of killing kylie jenner was first commissioned as part of The Andrea Project, a day of free events inspired by the life and works of Andrea Dunbar. The play is helmed by Milli Bhatia, the Royal Court’s trainee director, who previously directed Shine.
