Megastar actor Glenn Close makes West End debut as Norma Desmond, the role she played to jubilant success on Broadway

20 years after winning a Tony for best actress in a musical for the Broadway production of Sunset Boulevard, Glenn Close reprises the role of Norma Desmond for her West End debut. Andrew Lloyd Webber's stage version of the 1950s film noir, is revived at the Coliseum for just 43 performances in April 2016.

Based on the black comedy film by Billy Wilder, Sunset Boulevard the Musical brings Hollywood to the stage. In the confines of a crumbling mansion on Sunset Boulevard, dwindling silent-screen star Norma Desmond plans a masterful comeback. Dodging debt-collectors, screenwriter Joe Gillis is enchanted by the allure of this faded glamour and luxury. As they team up to create a hit film, the working relationship turns volatile and the comedy darkens.
With a score by master of musical theatre Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Don Black and Christopher Hampton, the stage version of Sunset Boulevard premiered over 20 years ago at London's Adelphi Theatre and went on to break records as the most expensive musical to run on Broadway.

This revival will be semi-staged and brought to life with the full English National Orchestra performing live each evening. Sunset Boulevard is the second collaboration between the ENO and the GradeLinnit Company, who scored big with a blockbuster, sellout run of Sweeney Todd starring Emma Thompson.
