The Cement Garden, Vault Festival
Ian McEwan's first novel, a dark work of Gothic sexual horror, comes to London as part of the Vault Festival...
Promising young theatre company FallOut premiered their adaptation of bestselling author Ian McEwan's first novel The Cement Garden in Cambridge last year. Now they've brought the production to London, to mixed reviews. The adaptation is part of the Vault Festival, a six-week programme of arts and entertainment held in the vaults under Waterloo station and curated by the Heritage Arts Company.
The play tells the story of four children left orphaned and alone in London after the death of their mother, taking a blackly comic look at the dark interrelationships formed by young people when, isolated and unsupervised, their lives are left to go to seed. Adapted by writer Jimmy Osborne and artistic director David Aula, the play stars David Annen, Ruby Bentall, Georgia Clarke-Day, Victoria Gould, George Mackay and Christopher Webster.
