Di and Viv and Rose, Vaudeville Theatre
Amelia Bullmore's sellout comedy about female friendship and foibles transfers to the West End, starring Tamsin Outhwaite.
This is a show on a role. It premiered in the small space in Hampstead Theatre, then, in a glow of critical acclaim demand for more tickets, it transferred to the main stage. Now, as all those who were charmed by Di, Viv and Rose predicted, it's coming to the West End.
The simple and heart-warming story charts the relationship between three women from university to adulthood. With deeply relatable and funny dialogue the show switches from drunken dancing to sudden jolts of pain in a smooth and affecting portrait of the nature of friendship.
Soap star Tamzin Outhwaite will reprise her role as sporty lesbian Di following her recent run in comedy Breeders at St James Theatre, and after receiving glowing reviews previously in Di and Viv and Rose, she proves herself as a talented stage actress. She is joined by Samantha Spiro as prim and elegant Viv and Jenna Russell as laid-back posh girl Rose.
Award winning comedy duo Amelia Bullmore (author) and Anna Mackmin (director) team up for their sixth production together. Blackburn’s debut play Mammals, directed by Mackmin, won the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and was shortlisted for the What’s On Best New Comedy Award. Their collaborations have a successful history, and this latest transfer looks set to cement their credentials.
