Internationally renowned experimental theatre-makers Forced Entertainment are back at the Battersea Arts Centre and this time they are interested in asking ‘What next?’ Tomorrow’s Parties is a playful meditation on what tomorrow might bring, offering a colourful kaleidoscope of hypothetical futures.

The company’s last new production, The Coming Storm, was a riotous romp through the human desire to tell stories, but this new show promises a more contemplative mood. The piece involves just two performers, each imagining a series of different possibilities for the months, years and decades ahead. Will we all live in one enormous city? Will we have superpowers and wallpaper that changes colour? Will we go on holiday in space?

The predictions range from sci-fi paradise to dystopian nightmare, inviting theatregoers into a wide variety of different imaginary landscapes. Forced Entertainment are also known for their interrogations of theatrical conventions and the relationship with an audience, so be prepared for a performance that is innovative, inclusive and self-aware.

The last time we saw Forced Entertainment in London it was in a marathon 24-hour version of their 1996 show Quizoola!, in which pairs of performers took turns asking and answering a variety of questions, from the bizarre to the banal. Based on this and the company’s other previous work, we’re expecting the silly, the sublime and the surprisingly profound.
