Back for an overdue London revival, An Inspector Calls, Stephen Daldry's five star, award-winning production returns to the West End

Some 25 years after its sensational run at the National Theatre, JB Priestley's An Inspector Calls returns to the London stage.
With 19 trophies and over four million enthusiastic audience members during its last run, the play eclipses recent successes such as Curious Incident and War Horse as the most celebrated National Theatre production ever.
Now director Stephen Daldry's seminal production returns to the stage to thrill a new generation of theatre-goers.
Daldry comments, "Each time we have mounted this production it seems more relevant than the last, with the refugee crisis, the European referendum debate and American elections, you can’t fail to see the genius of Priestley’s writing"
Written at the end of WWII and set before the end of the WWI, Priestley's play tells the thrilling tale of respectable family, a mysterious visitor and a suspicious suicide. An unexpected visit from Inspector Goode interrupts the Birling family's celebratory dinner. He has come to investigate the death of a poor young woman called Eva. As family members are questioned, we discover the intricate web of connections this affluent family has to the vulnerable young woman.
Having helmed blockbuster films The Reader, The Hours and Billy Elliot, along with West End hits Skylight, The Audience and Billy Elliot The Musical, Daldry is theatre royalty, and An Inspector Calls was one of his breakthrough hits as a director.
The script is a mainstay of the GCSE National Curriculum too, so this West End revival is a great chance for the next generation to see An Inspector Calls brought to life on stage.
