Mamma Mia! The Party immersive experience, London
Greek Island paradise and golden pop music come to life as Sweden's hit immersive Mamma Mia party transfers to London
Here we go again...
First came the music, followed by the hit stage show, then not one but two blockbuster movies, now you can be part of the party with a Mamma Mia immersive experience. London's O2 will host theatrical and dining experience, which has already impressed in Stockholm. Mamma Mia! The Party invites audiences into a Greek Island paradise, where olive trees, trickling fountains and trailing bougainvillea transport you to Nikos' Taverna for an evening of Mediterranean food and live performance.
With Abba member and writer of Mamma Mia Björn Ulvaeus at the helm, this is no flimsy fan tribute. Ulvaeus was inspired to continue the Mamma Mia party when he saw audiences dancing in the aisles after the stage show. Since the immersive medley of food and theatre launched in Stockholm in 2016, it's become a firm favourite for tourists, families and Abba fans, scoring top accolades on Trip Advisor and regularly selling out. Excitingly for us Brits, the English version of Mamma Mia! The Party will be adapted by TV presenter and writer Sandi Toksvig.

We're somewhat skeptical of the capacity of North Greenwich's rather corporate and charmless O2 centre to evoke the sun-bleached beauty of Skopelos island, but there's plenty of budget and experience behind the project. Architect firm Haworth Tompkins are transforming a space inside Greenwich's vast O2 arena into an Aegean retreat, with tables clustered around the courtyard of a rustic taverna. There the owner Nikos and his family will wine and dine you as their guests and lead an evening of story-telling, dancing and of course plenty of Abba songs.
Assuming the London production is like Stockholm, you can expect generous sharing platters and mezzes with garlic and rosemary shellfish, hake stew and grilled meat alongside mountains of hummus, tztazki, and feta-laden salad.
It won't be the most enlightening or high brow of nights out, but if Mamma Mia! The Party manages to capture the jubilant spirit of the show or films then you may not be able to resist summoning that inner Dancing Queen and having the time of your life.
My my, how can we resist this?
