My Name is Lucy Barton, Bridge Theatre

Laura Linney's stunning sililoquy on loneliness returns to the Bridge Theatre after a sellout premiere last summer

Laura Linney: My Name is Lucy Barton returns to Bridge Theatre
American actor Laura Linney returns to the Bridge Theatre in 2019 to reprise the lead role in My Name is Lucy Barton after an impressive three week premiere run in June 2018.

The Golden Globe and Emmy winning star, who you will recognise from Frasier, Mystic River and Love Actually, is a regular on Broadway. She made her UK debut in a one-woman show based on best-selling novel My Name is Lucy Barton. Her 90-minute soliloquy was hailed 'simply stunning' and 'deeply affecting' by critics.

Elizabeth Strout's 2016 book revolves around ideas of recovery, reunion and reconciliation. Told by the titular Lucy Barton from a future perspective, drawing on hindsight and the unreliability of memory, it looks at a five day period when our heroine finds herself hospitalised and confronted by her estranged mother. The wise, deeply touching story of self-discovery and family ties galvanized readers and topped best-sellers charts.

Playwright Rona Munro (The James Plays, National Theatre) adapts the prose into a monologue and former head of the National Theatre Richard Eyre directs, having collaborated with Linney previously on The Crucible (Virginia Theatre, 2002) and 2008 film The Other Man.
