Rodgers and Hammerstein's Carousel, London Coliseum

Musical theatre and opera combine as director Lonny Price draws together the talents of ENO’s award-winning Orchestra and Chorus, world-renowned classical singer, Katherine Jenkins and West End veteran, Alfie Boe. It promises to be something truly special and we suspect that tickets will sell out faster than you can say ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone.’

The Rogers and Hammersteins show is a beacon of musical theatre's golden age. Telling the story of father making amends, it combines a touching story with a stellar score and was voted the best musical in the 20th Century by Time Magazine. It's the kind of show that should pull in the crowds - especially with such high-profile leads.

Katherine Jenkins will make her musical theatre debut as Julie Jordan, the wife of carousel barker, Billy Bigelow (played by Alfie Boe). Both have performed numbers from the original 1945 score throughout their respective careers, and for the first time are coming together on stage to bring these two much-loved characters to life. Don't expect West End chorus lines; this is a semi-staged production.

So, without the full rigmarole of props and sets, all focus will be on the music. The Carousel score, featuring hits ‘If I Loved You’, ‘Mister Snow’ and ‘June is Bustin Out All Over’ will be accompanied by a 40 strong ENO orchestra, within the magnificent acoustics of the London Coliseum.

A word of warning: if you’ve got your heart set on seeing Jenkins perform then don’t book your ticket for before Tuesday 18 April. (Jenkins is not scheduled to appear until then). Otherwise, be on the ball when public booking opens at 9:00 on Wednesday 30 November.
