Vivienne Westwood: Get a Life, Royal Festival Hall
The influential fashion designer and activist discusses her life and work in this keynote talk at the Southbank Centre
It is rare to find fashion designers whose influences extend as far beyond the fashion industry as Vivienne Westwood’s do. Throughout her career, she has been heavily involved in arts, culture, politics, and discussions on the environment, and as such is one of the most prolific designers of our age.
Westwood has never shied away from debate or campaigning; her diaries proved no different. Her book, Get a Life, which began as thoughts posted online in 2010, was published in 2016 and made waves as an unapologetic airing of her opinions as well as an insight into her creative process.
In this keynote talk at the Royal Festival Hall, Westwood will be using her diaries as a starting point for a discussion of her love of literature and the importance of classical art. She plans to discuss the novels and literature that have been the greatest influences on her life and thought, in what is certain to be an honest and illuminating discussion.
