International Women's Day Gender Debate, Old Vic
To mark International Women’s Day, Shami Chakrabarti leads a debate asking how close we are to achieving gender equality
‘A woman cannot be herself in modern society. It is an
exclusively male society, with laws made by men, and with a judicial system
that judges feminine conduct from a masculine point of view.’ These words,
written by the nineteenth century playwright Henrik Ibsen, are the starting
point for the Old Vic’s upcoming debate. How much has changed, and how much
progress is yet to be made?
