Dulwich Literary Festival 2016

The Dulwich Literary Festival 2016 hosts Harriet Harman, Nick Clegg, Joanna Trollope plus events for kids, Potter fans and bookworms

Dulwich Literary Festival 2016
One of the our favourite bookshops in London, Dulwich Books presents the third annual Dulwich Literary Festival 2016, which promises to be even bigger and better than last year.

Anthony Trollope's novel The Way We Live Now is the theme for this year's festival. Trollope's 1875 satirical book rebuked the corruption the author saw around him on returning to England from abroad. Corruption? Discontent? Perhaps we can get behind this theme. Nick Clegg and Ken Clarke close the festival on the Sunday in discussion with former Independent editor Arifa Akbar in what will prove to be a thought-provoking, perhaps slightly wistful, retrospective of their coalition government. Both have political memoirs out this year. Harriet Harman and Margaret Hodge will discuss the delicate relationships between large corporations and the UK government.

But there'll be something for everyone at this year's event, not just for the malcontents. For kids aged 9+ there's a brilliant magic lesson inspired by the Harry Potter books and a competition to write the best Edwardian mystery.

There's a strong selection of women's writing. Joanna Trollope will examine the role of women in today's society, with reference to her ancestor's novel. Biographer of Eleanor Marx, Rachel Holmes will discuss the events of 1989 for the German Democratic Republic during the collapse of Soviet Russia.

Here's all the details of our top picks of the best Dulwich Literary Festival events.
