Working Without Words? SohoCreate Festival 2015

Composer Gavin Higgins, choreographer Mark Baldwin and psychologist Dr Nicola Clayton discuss emotions and communication at SohoCreate Festival.

Rambert Dance collaboration
Exploring a different kind of story-telling, this SohoCreate Festival talk combines three art forms to reveal the ways in which emotion and narrative can be communicated without language. How do we translate thoughts into movement and sound?
Science, music and dance
Psychologist Dr Nicola Clayton is sure to shed some light on the process of creating emotion without words. The Cambridge Univeristy Professor of Comparative Cognition combines this research-led life of academia with the role as the first ever scientist-in-residence for the Rambert Dance Company. In collaboration with Artistic Director of Rambert Mark Baldwin, former resident choreographer of Sadler's Wells, and composer Gavin Higgins, Clayton has used an interest in the science behind memory, play and understanding to shape the choreography of contemporary dance. Together the three creatives will explain the elusive process of composition, choreography and performative intensity.
