Who starts a rock band in their 60s? Not many people, that’s who - pensioners aren’t the most natural rockers. But then most pensioners aren’t founding members of Sonic Youth. In fact, as the chant goes, there’s only one Kim Gordon.
Not content with that accolade, or being (variously) a fashion designer, actress, and producer, four years ago Gordon founded Body/Head. Last year the two-piece band released their first album to critical acclaim.
If it sounds like a life unfinished, then it is, but that hasn’t stopped Gordon writing an autobiography Girl In A Band. Normally that might be considered a cash grab - but when there is so much, and so much of interest, to tell, it’s anything but.
In March Gordon will discuss Girl in A Band - which illuminates four decades of the music and fashion worlds across America - and her experiences in conversation with journalist Miranda Sawyer.
