A Christmas Carol, Queen Elizabeth Hall

“there is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humour.”

A Christmas Carol, Mary Evans Picture Library

there is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humour.

With this in mind, join a merry gathering at Queen Elizabeth Hall on 15 December for a delightful reading of Charles Dickens' much-loved morality novel, A Christmas Carol. As part of their Winter Festival, the Southbank Centre is celebrating the 170th anniversary of the publication of this literary favourite, which will be narrated on the night by welsh comedian, writer and actor,  Griff Rhys Jones . The formidable part of Scrooge will be read by Scottish actor and friend of Billy Connolly, Bill Paterson .  With the all-star Brit cast including (amongst others)  Freddie FoxTim Pigott-Smith   and  Janine Duvitski   this looks set to be a lively (and unmissable) reading.

If the cold winter weather has left you feeling a little “Bah Humbug!” then the uplifting tale of Scrooge's transformation from a mean miser into a much merrier man is sure to warm your heart and raise your spirits. There will also be some pre-show carols courtesy of the the renowned quintet, Total Brass
