Kidsfest
Running on the Sunday of this year’s Hampstead & Highgate Literary Festival, Kidsfest aims to entertain and inspire your children whilst the adult events are going on. These fun, interesting activities are all focused around expanding the creative imagination. Workshops are often run by an author or poet who will teach your child how to draw cartoons, perform poetry or write their own stories across a wide range of genres. There are 11 kids events running across the weekend to entertain readers from age 6 to teenage. The full list can be found here but we have picked our favourites below.
Create Fashion! with Jacky Bahbout
Sunday 14 September 11am - 12pm (£3)
Suitable for ages 8 and above, Jacky Bahbout hosts this practical workshop for all young fashion lovers. The author of My Fashion Lookbook will teach you the ways of a real fashion designer and even help you create your own clothes. From mood boards to muses, with a bit of hair and make up thrown in, this session will have you ready for the catwalk in no time!
Magic Carpet Imaginings Creative Writing Workshop with Miriam Halahmy
Sunday 14 September 3pm - 4.30pm (£3)
Suitable for ages 11 and above, poet and author Miriam Halahmy shows you how stories work and how to write them in this creative writing workshop. Halahmy is a published novelist writes who books for young adults, including Hidden, which was nominated for the 2012 CILIP Carnegie Medal. No experience is needed for this session, just enthusiasm, but make sure you book as there are only 15 spaces available.
Made Up Science: The Do's and Don'ts with Mitch Benn
Sunday 14 September 5pm - 6pm (£3)
Comedian, singer and author, the multi-talented Mitch Benn takes you on an alien adventure of creativity in this science fiction workshop. Suitable for ages 12 and above, Benn lets you sci-fi fans in on the secrets of the imagination that wrote Terra and Terra’s World, praised by Neil Gaiman as reminiscent of Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams.
