The V. S. Pritchett Memorial Prize honours the year’s best unpublished short story with a £1000 prize and publication in the RSL Review and Prospect online. The winner will be announced on the night, and after the presentation will read the short story.
To mark the occasion short story master A. L. Kennedy will discuss the form that Pritchett described as ‘exquisitely difficult’. Kennedy has published 15 books, six of which are short story collectons. Her latest, All the Rage inspired the Independent to decry Kennedy as 'one of the most consistently dazzling writers of her generation'.
Kennedy will read from her own rich oeuvre of stories and discuss the art of writing short snippets of narrative with head of the Royal Society of Literature's Prizes Paula Johnson.
