Does London Need More Tall Towers? Peacock Theatre
Much controversy surrounds the London Skyline. Join a panel of eminent experts to debate whether our city needs more tall towers.
The rapid rate at which our city’s architecture is ascending is a controversial issue. With the dazzling reflective design of the Walkie Talkie Tower casting “death-rays” melting the cars below and triggering fires, and the bold shape of the Shard dividing opinion, the stream of new skyscrapers is certainly having an impact on the city. Now, with the recent announcement of 230 new towers to be built in London over the next ten years, the LSE is holding a public debate on whether ‘London needs many more tall buildings’.
As one the headline events in the London Festival of Archtecture, this discussion promised to be both engaging and informative. A panel of experts, critics and academics leading the debate includes: Sir Simon Jenkins, journalist and Chairman of the National Trust; Rowan Moore, architecture critic for The Observer; Nicky Gavron, chair of London Assembly’s Planning Committee; LSE director Tony Travers and many more. Come along to hear these prominent figures present their arguments, and to contribute your own thoughts on London’s changing skyline.
