Laurie Lee: A Celebration of his Life and Legacy, The British Library

Writer and poet Laurie Lee’s life is memorialised in his charming autobiographical trilogy Red Sky at Night, Cider with Rosie and A Moment of War. Spanning a dreamy childhood in rural Gloucestershire to fighting in the Spanish Civil war these books are beloved classics. To mark the centenary of Lee’s birth, The British Library is hosting a celebration of the writer’s life and literary legacy.

Through a combination of readings, reflections and personal insights writers including Louis de Bernières (Captain Corelli’s Mandolin) and Tim Dee (Four Fields, The Running Sky) will reevalute Lee’s impact on the literary canon and discuss the way in which his influence lives on. Poets Adam Horrovitz, P.J Kavanagh and Brian Patten will reflect on Lee’s verse and  bring it to live with heartfelt readings.

This intimate literary celebration will take place in the Terrace restaurant. The audience is encouraged to ask questions to any of the esteemed writers.
