Penelope Lively: Life in the Garden, Daunt Books
The Booker Prize winning writer Penelope Lively discusses her love of gardening in connection with her new book Life in the Garden
This autumn writer Penelope Lively returns to Daunt Books, where she launched her
previous work, Ammonites and Leaping Fish,
in 2013. This time, Lively will hold court at the Marylebone bookshop to
discuss her three greatest passions – reading, writing, and gardening.
A keen gardener, her upcoming release, Life in the Garden, is partly a memoir of her own life examined through the gardens that have meant the most to her, from her childhood garden in Cairo to the urban garden of her north London home today.
The other major component of the work is a consideration of significant gardens in literature. Lively discusses fictional gardens, such as those in Alice in Wonderland, but also thinks about the gardens which have been significant to some of the most celebrated writers in history.
Tickets, which include a complimentary glass of wine and a 20 per cent discount on Lively’s books, cost £10 and are available to book now.
