Trump has given liberals many reasons to be enraged. His leadership is scrutinised this spring by a panel of experts at the how to: Academy.
Although it has only been two weeks since Trump became commander-in-chief, it feels instead like a century straight from the dark ages. Since being inaugurated on the 20th of January, Trump has initiated a travel ban that would have (if not lifted) uprooted the lives of tens of thousands of people, strained the United States’ diplomatic allegiance with Australia, and threatened to invade Mexico. Yes, a leftist’s Armageddon. As a matter of fact, Trump has a lower approval rating than any president that came before him. So why did anyone vote for him in the first place?
Trump-advocates believe that he was a risk worth taking. Voting for Trump was a collective middle-finger to a government that had supposedly favored making friends with enemies over looking after their own middle-class. Many thought that Trump, although controversial, was transparent and authentic; He didn’t favor political correctness. Furthermore, he had a record of running successful businesses and promised to run America as such, thus creating 25 million new American jobs over the next decade in the process (keyword: American).
The how to: Academy, which offers enlightenment through intellectual discussions, hosts a discussion on the US president. Emily Maitlis, an award-winning journalist and newsreader from BBC chairs the debate. On the one side, arguing against Trump (and presumably revisiting post-election glory days) will be James Rubin, a former diplomat and US Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs (During the administration of Bill Clinton) and award-winning journalist Jonathan Freedland. Rivalling them and sticking up for the president will be controversial columnist and debater James Delingpole and Melanie Phillips, one of Britian’s most prominent right-wing voices.
