"What do I say to you girl - you beautiful girls? You girls who are having the Bad Year – the Bad Year where you cannot remember why you were happy aged 12, and cannot imagine being happy at 21? What can I say in one minute, two minutes, three minutes?

So many things. That panic and anxiety will lie to you – they are gonzo, malign commentators on the events of your life. Their counsel is wrong. You are as high, wired and badly advised by adrenaline as you would be by cocaine."

These wonderful welcoming words by beloved popular feminist and Times columnist Caitlin Moran are part of her newly released book Moranifesto, and an extracted essay to young girls.

Moran is most famous for her inspirational book How to Be a Woman that helped form an essential part of the fourth wave of feminism and proved once and for all that women can be just as funny and insightful as men.

Having mothered two young girls and recently leafed through her own history to write her novel How to Build a Girl – all about growing up in Wolverhampton on benefits – Moran has decided to turn her powerful gaze towards the struggle that young girls face as they reach maturity in the modern age.

Moranifesto, Moran's latest book, is something of a call to arms and a statement on how girls can join in the fight to make the world a better place.

Those between the age of 11-18 are invited to hear the author read her favourite parts of Moranifesto and address what the future might look like for the next generation in the Southbank Centre this October as part of the International Day of the Girl celebrations (a day focused on highlighting the formidable strength and power of girls all over the world). This is followed by a conversation between Caitlin and Jude Kelly CBE, Southbank Centre's Artistic Director and founder of WOW – Women of the World festival.

Expect to be moved to tears of frustration, laughter and joy – and book quickly as tickets will sell like hotcakes.
