Ann Pratchett in conversation with Mariella Fostrup
Best-selling American writer Ann Patchett comes to London to discuss her prolific career and her hotly-anticipated new novel, The Dutch House.

In her only UK appearance this year, Patchett will be in conversation with Radio 4's resident book expert, writer and broadcaster Mariella Frostrup. Together they will reflect on a career that includes the Orange Prize for fiction, the PEN/Faulkner Award and a literary reach so broad it earned Pratchett a place on Time Magazine's list of 100 Most Influential People.

Those who have enjoyed the likes of Bel Canto, Commonwealth and State of Wonder will be familiar with the warmth and wisdom of Patchett's prose. Whether writing about an international hostage crisis or a family saga over five decades, she has a shrewd eye for details, and a poet's flair for imagery.

Her latest novel, The Dutch House, is a taut family drama that's caught up in the of a magnificent mansion. It follows siblings Danny and Maeve, who remain compelled by the house they grew up in. It's a house their mother walked out of and a house their step-mother later claims as her own, leaving Danny and Maeve exiled. As they grow up the house still holds the secrets of their strange, fractured family. Culture Whisper's Book Editor devoured a review of The Dutch House and featured it in a round up of the best books coming out in autumn.

Not only will guests get the chance to hear Patchett's insights on her new book and the inspiration behind it, but they will also get a chance to read it two weeks ahead of the general release date. A ticket to attend the talk includes an advance copy of The Dutch House, signed by Patchett herself.
