New free weekly concerts and talks streamed online courtesy by Kings Place in Kings Cross include music from resident Aurora Orchestra and other musical landmarks.

Young American composer Nico Muhly’s concerto for six-string electric violin, Seeing is Believing (Wed 20 May, 7PM), was performed live at Kings Place in a memorable concert in May 2011. Inspired by the ancient practice of mapping the stars and commissioned and performed by Aurora Orchestra, the work is paired with Byrd’s exquisite choral motet Miserere mei, Deus, speaking to Muhly’s love of English Tudor music. Also played is John Adams’s Chamber Symphony, a virtuosic rollercoaster which pays homage to the dazzling, acrobatic music of 1950s cartoons.
All the Mozart piano concertos are played in a long-running collaboration between Kings Place and its resident orchestra Aurora. The series has involved an astonishing array of international pianists in creative, original programmes. In this concert from 2019 (streamed Wed 3 June, 7PM), celebrated pianist Angela Hewitt is guest performer, bringing a dancing delight to Mozart's Piano Concerto No 22. A wonderful interpreter of JS Bach, she concludes with an encore by that timeless composer.

Aurora Orchestra next celebrates the first female professor of piano at the Paris Conservatoire, Louise Farrenc (Wed 17 June, 7PM). Farrenc was admired by Schumann and Berlioz but rarely performed beyond her lifetime, until recently. Hear her turbulent and invigorating Symphony No 3 in G minor, under the baton of rising star Duncan Ward, first performed at Kings Place’s Venus Unwrapped season in December 2019.
Iain Farrington’s exquisite arrangement of Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde distils a vast symphonic scoring to an intimate sixteen-player orchestration(streamed Wed 1 July, 7PM). The result is a transparent jewel, perfectly suited to the unique acoustics of Kings Place’s Hall One, and featuring the incomparable soloists Dame Sarah Connolly and Andrew Staples.
