Il barbiere di Siviglia, Glyndebourne Opera Festival 2016
Figaro, the resourceful barber and fixer, makes things go his way in Rossini's sparkling comedy
In the first of two new productions at Glyndebourne this summer, Rossini's sparkling comedy introduces the wily barber-surgeon Figaro - who will be back, on the verge of the eve of his wedding, in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, later in the country house opera season. In this first adventure, the resourceful fixer, played by Björn Bürger, helps a nobleman disguised as a poor student to woo Rosina (Danielle de Niese)under the nose of her jealous elderly guardian, Dr Bartolo (Alessandro Corbelli). The second act music scene is one of the funniest scenes in all opera. Enrique Mazzola conducts the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
