Rusalka, English National Opera

A water nymph falls for a mortal prince but can only live on land if she forsakes her beautiful voice in Dvorak's poignant opera

Rusalka trades her beautiful voice for love in Dvorak's opera
The Little Mermaid story of Hans Christian Andersen is mirrored in the magical opera by Czech composer Anton Dvorak, Rusalka, based on Slavic fairy tales.

In this traditional story, the heroine is a water nymph with a captivating voice who falls for a mortal. The only way that she can join him on land is by giving up her entrancing vocal talent.

Once out of water, her most beguiling attraction is gone, and she looks on helplessly and wordlessly when her prince finds love elsewhere.
