Beautiful Allotment, Geffrye Museum, Hoxton
A cocktail bar on an allotment has opened in London
Before you pack your bags and head out of the city in search of a beautiful country garden, let us steer you in the direction of a new, exciting installment to the London horticultural scene: Beautiful Allotment. It’s a pop-up brought to us by the team behind the Bourne & Hollingsworth Buildings (the Clerkenwell restaurant known for its stunning, foliage-infused interiors and top notch bottomless brunch), that’s taking over the Victorian gardens of the Geffrye Museum in Hoxton this summer. This allotment is not all about gardening, though; it’s actually just as much an al fresco watering hole with makeshift cocktail bars, bookable day beds dangling from trees and a dome-structured treehouse with room for up to 10 people.
The cocktails have been curated by the Bourne & Hollingsworth team and are infused with ingredients grown on the grounds – with a focus on being fresh, seasonal and sustainable. Guests won’t find themselves stuck in long queues at the bar to get their hands on these concoctions either, roaming ‘garden-tenders’ with ice-filled wheelbarrows will be taking orders and wheeling drinks to revellers, wherever you choose to sit or lounge within the plant-shrouded garden.
Don’t leave without having a wander round the space and having a peek at the handcrafted potting sheds, trailing plants, vegetable patches and homemade furniture – all sourced to create a living, organic and picturesque outdoor destination. Highlights include the polytunnel large enough to house a banqueting table inside.
This brings us on to the food. Those who build up an appetite during their stay can satisfy their hunger with BBQ-led fare. Take a seat at one of the garden’s raised BBQ areas and tuck into wholesome platters of vegan, vegetarian, fish or meat options, all of which have been locally sourced.
The Beautiful Allotment is running for five weeks from 25th July, promising Londoners al fresco drinking, eating and partying. An added bonus: if you pre-book the experience, you and your party can arrange to be picked up by the allotment’s vintage tractor trailer from anywhere within a mile of the venue. Once on board, you’ll be able to choose from a range of cocktails to sip during your journey. It doesn’t get more country-meets-cocktail party than that now, does it?
