I, Peaseblossom, Polka Theatre
An enchanting introduction to the comedy and chaos of Shakespeare's 'Midsummer Night's Dream...
When writer Tim Crouch first presented I, Peaseblossom in his home town of Brighton, he was banned from every Catholic school in the area when - according to the Guardian "one headteacher took exception to the fact that his fairy ended up flirting – improvised – with a teacher."
It's this sort of madcap tomfoolery that makes his productions such fun to watch. Kate Mayne takes the reigns as Peaseblossom, the maligned fairy from A Midsummer Night's Dream for this production at Polka Theatre in Wimbledon.
With Company of Angels' talent in choosing projects perfect for engaging and challenging young people, and Tim Crouch ’s masterful understanding of audience interaction (his show The Author was all about what it means to be an audience) this promises to be an absorbing exploration of Shakespeare's magical comedy for young audiences.
Tim Crouch's I, Caliban is also running during the May half term e at the Polka Theatre. Whether you choose between the monster and fairy, or find the children want to see both, these charter monologues are an inspiring way into Shakespeare.
