Already nominated for Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at the 87th Academy Awards 2015, Song of the Sea, directed by Irish animator Tomm Moore premiered to incredibly positive reviews last year and solidified Moore's repletion as a great creator of children's films, following his 2009 feature debut The Secret Of Kells, which also earned itself an Oscar nomination.
Song of the Sea: story
In this ethereal story – animated with rich colours and illustrative flair – join Irish myth and folktale: Song of the Sea tells of a young Irish boy (David Rawle) who, frustrated with his mute sister Saoirse who he blames for his mother's mysterious disappearance, discovers that his sibling is a magical being known as a 'selkie' who can swim in the deep ocean with the seals.
In order to find Saoirse's lost voice whilst attempting to free the spirit world from the spell of a Celtic goddess, the two siblings set off across Ireland and away from their Granny who wants to keep them both safe in the city.  
Song of the Sea soundtrack 
The Song of the Sea soundtrack features 25 original songs from Irish musician Lisa Hannigan (made famous in Damien Rice's band) and French composer Bruno Coulais (sneak preview it on iTunes).

Enchanting Irish music and glorious animation make this film a must watch for children and their families, footing this Irish animation against the likes of Studio Ghibli and giving its Japanese competitors a serious run for their money.
