Kew Midsummer Fete 2015
Not sure what to do with kids? As the summer holidays approach, take children to Kew Midsummer Fete 2015 for a day of traditional fun
With the summer holidays nearly upon us, and the weather warm and inviting, schools are winding down and busy reintroducing fun back into the classroom. If they could, teachers would no doubt be taking their charges to Kew Gardens' Midsummer Fete to play on the Victorian carousel courtesy of Reuben Bond (whose family fairground business stretches back six generations to the Victorian era) and watching them swing around on the Victorian flying chair-o-planes, ferris wheel, or a tots' merry-go-round - perfect for toddlers in London.
The Kew Garden London activities include all the traditional English activities a British fete needs, from a tug of war to a local dog show with prizes for Best Pedigree as well as Dog Most Like It's Owner. On stage, fete goers will find a line up of local entertainment and musicians, including the Kew Dance Arts Performance Company of 12 local dancers from 6-13 years performing a mixture of jazz and musical theatre dance, Snake in the Grass and Rupert's Blues and the Brazil from percussion group Maracatu Estrela do Norte.
Over at the food court, chefs will be cooking everything from vegan Ethiopian food to pizzas and Burgers, ensuring that everyone walking around the 100 stalls at the pop-up marketplace and browsing the jewellery, ceramics and photography on offer are well fed. And if grown ups get bored watching their children on the ferris wheel, they can get involved in Kew Gardens' charity raffle, and try to win themselves an Apple Watch.
