Error 404, Polka Theatre
Put down the iPads and discover an interactive online world on stage instead at the Polka's children's theatre show, London 2015.
Family friendly play about robots
We all know the feeling: machines break down, or the internet won't connect, you get an error message on the screen... For the ten year old hero of Error 404, such technical hiccups are a matter of life and death— because his best friend is a robot. It wasn't always that way. His first best friend was in a terrible accident. But then Mum brought home a mysterious parcel...
This show was inspired by a local school group studying philosophy. And kids in the audience will be part of the performance too, with the cast reacting to their suggestions and ideas, so every show is different. Pauses in the story will allow children to think about what they've seen and how it may be significant.
Entertaining and educational theatre
Multi-talented writer Daniel Bye ("part of the future of British theatre"— The Times) promises that there will, of course, be a real robot in the story. "Not on stage. Only in your mind." If you have to prise iPads out of little hands, Error 404 is an engaging way to lure kids who love electronics into live performance. The show hones Information and Technology skills and critical thinking and, at its heart, encourages children to think philosophically, with some fundamental questions: What is it to be real? What is a true friend? Do you have a 'true self'?
Recommended for ages 8 - 12, but older children and grown ups will enjoy Error 404.
