Michael Morpurgo's Pied Piper of Hamelin by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Fetsival Hall
Children's writer Michael Morpurgo narrates his version of the classic tale with orchestral accompaniment from the L.P.O -- engaging classical music for kids.
The Pied Piper of Hamelin, Michael Morpurgo
Of the many editions and versions of the Legend of the Pied Piper of Hamelin (Russell Brand has adapted it, as has Victorian poet Robert Browning), Children's Laureate Michael Morpurgo's adaptation of the tale is one of the most beloved. A young orphan narrates the story and brings to life a troubled town, plagued by rats and inept leaders. But Morpurgo's tale has its own original twist: instead of the traditional dark ending, he reshapes the story to reveal a moral about the perils of greed.
Pied Piper of Hamelin: musical, orchestral performance
The perennially popular children's author will pair up with the London Philharmonic Orchestra for the world premiere of a new orchestral work based on the mythical rat catcher and narrated by Morpurgo himself. With music by composer Colin Matthews and conducted by Vladimir Jurowski, the LPO Principal Conductor, this musical adventure is an accessible and engaging introduction to classical music for children ages seven and up. To keep little ones enrapt, Emma Chichester Clark's bright illustrations will be projected during the performance.
Recommended for ages seven and up.
