Revolution Farm, Newham City Farm
Orwell's dystopian classic Animal Farm is adapted for the stage with a modern twist and performed in the very apt surroundings of a London City Farm.
Orwell's dystopian classic Animal Farm is adapted for the stage with a modern twist and performed in the very apt surroundings of a London City Farm.
The farmyard politics and animal uprising of Orwell's classic novel are updated in this unique theatrical project. Instead of the stage, this play has been written for the authentic backdrop of Newham City Farm, where it will be performed in promenade
Taking Orwell's vividly imagined plot, Revolution Farm injects a dose of freshness with a focus on urban language that reflects the contemporary London setting. Yet the animal antics are also alive and kicking as the play is performed in the midst of the farmyard.
Playwright James Kenworth has revived Orwell's words and transformed the novel into a dynamic performance piece. As part of a Community Links project, the performance is a collaboration between industry professionals, local students and young actors.
As well as an utterly unique experience, Revolution Farm also offers an engaging way to introduce older children to both theatrical innovation and classic literature. We recommend you make a day of it and take some time to explore the farm.
