Pirate Gran, Southbank Centre
Pirate Gran invites audiences to bask in the magic of imagination as they climb aboard for a journey of excitement, adventure and just the right amount of silliness.
Based on the illustrated book series by Geraldine Durrant and Rose Forshall and adapted by Scamp Theatre, Pirate Gran is a show that invites audiences to bask in the magic of imagination as they climb aboard for a journey of excitement, adventure and just the right amount of silliness.
Join Faint Hearted Jack, Cut-Throat Malone and Fingers O’Malley - Gran’s loyal grandchildren-turned-crew – aboard the Black Barnacle, which is brought to life by jolly musical accompaniment from Benji Bower and ingenious stage design by James Lewis.
While stories in picture books are necessarily limited by their illustrations, this production is as vibrant and exciting as the audience’s imagination allows it to be. Gran’s living room transforms, piece by piece, into all the makings of the finest swashbuckling adventure, and children and adults alike will find themselves swept along with the story for the full hour duration of the show.
According to War Horse author Michael Morpurgo, "the quality of what Scamp do is amazing". In terms of creativity, entertainment and sheer fun, this production stays true to their well established form.
