Ann Van den Broek: Loops of Behaviour Preview, Barbican Centre
If you’re into immersive experiences that blend art forms, be sure to visit Loops of Behaviour, Ann Van den Broek’s installation coming to The Curve at the Barbican this summer
Ann Van den Broek is the dancer/choreographer founder of the Dutch-Flemish dance company WArd/waRD. She’s no stranger to the Barbican, where she had a residency in 2017 and two years earlier participated in a Doug Aitken happening in the Barbican Art Gallery.
Now she brings her own installation, Loops of Behaviour, to the versatile space of The Curve in the Barbican Centre.
Loops of Behaviour marks a further stage in Van de Broek’s research into the concept of ‘total experience’, allowing visitors to immerse themselves into live performance, the spoken word, sound and video projections.
The focus of this work is on patterns of human behaviour, states of mind and feelings. The installation includes a series of films which explore human behaviour and how to translate it into movement. Once a day, five performers present a version of Van den Broek’s most recent work, Accusations, especially adapted for the space of The Curve.
Loops of Behaviour draws its inspiration from a text by the Austrian writer Peter Handke; and is a collaboration with musician and composer Nicolas Rombouts and singer and lyricist Gregory Frateur.
